Yoga Classes and Courses

I’m Not Flexible Class

This is the beginner’s ‘beginners’ class. We have too many conversations with people that tried a “beginner’s class” that resulted in them feeling embarrassed and frustrated. The common quote we hear is, ‘Everyone else knew what they were doing except me’.

We try to keep these classes small, and customize it to everyone’s needs. We go over typical yoga terms and do simple, easy poses to begin the mind-body link. We will also teach relaxation breathing techniques.

Desk Jockey Class

This is our version of an ‘open yoga class’. We place more emphasis on unraveling the body after sitting all day. We will cover maintenance moves that you can do throughout the day. This is considered fairly low impact and not very active/sporty. We will also be teaching breathing relaxation breathing techniques.

This class is more for the spirit! All walks-of-life are welcome. We are going to connect with others in a non-judgmental and accepting manner, and allow the good energy to flow. We will do poses and meditations that focus on being grounded and instruments of peace. By all means, bring your prayer beads or special tokens if you desire.

Private Yoga Session

Traditionally, Yoga is taught in a one-to-one setting. The intimacy and self-discovery that takes place on the yoga journey sometimes needs some personal guidance. The session will be custom-tailored to suit your needs. The length of time for your session(s) will be discussed before you begin. Please Email Janine, or call 832-294-9645, to discuss your intentions and rates.

Progressive Yoga Courses

This set of courses is for someone who is little more serious about learning yoga. It consists of three (3) levels, each building off of the prior level. Each level has two parts that will be six weeks long for each of the two parts.

In each lesson, we will teach 2-3 new poses in-depth, and then we will continue with poses already learned in prior lessons. Students may decide to continue after the close of each part. This will also include an overview of meditation techniques. We designed this progressive yoga class with emphasis on mind-body connection and flexibility. Any student in this program can attend a lesson for their level or lower.

There is a ‘graduate’ level which we will discuss with the student on a case-by-case basis.

What to expect on your first yoga class?

I can only reflect on my own experience, and the few (yet very vulnerable) feedback I have received. Don’t expect anything is my best advice. However, people do come in feeling a range of things, from a little embarrassed to outright ashamed. I think the thoughts are (no matter how skinny you are) “how did I get my body to this point where I can’t even touch my toes?”

And for someone to come in and get on the floor with me like this is probably the most courageous person I have ever met. There is so much judgement that the mind does when you are moving and reaching through the different positions. I seek to tell you, and remind myself, that although you DO have a goal in mind to PLEASE feel grateful for the position that you are in NOW. And this very simple life lesson will spread across into all aspects of your life.

But again, don’t expect it.
